Fox Valley SHRM and the Northeast Wisconsin Association for Talent Development partner to bring you a half-day conference focused on Strategies for Building an Inclusive Workplace. This co-hosted event (offered in-person or virtual) is specifically designed for human resources, organizational development, and learning leaders, to connect and reflect on how we can help shape our workplaces.

About Lisa (she/her)

As an experienced and energetic Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) professional speaker and facilitator, Lisa specializes in counteracting unconscious bias and LGBTQ+ inclusion in business. Her impact is amplified through strengthening each person’s allyship. With a demonstrated history of working in secondary education and a passion toward community and social services, she is an expert in counseling, crisis intervention, educational leadership, and program development.

After receiving her Diversity & Inclusion certification from Cornell University, Lisa launched her Inclusion Ally business. Being an expert in LGBTQ+ issues has allowed her to present in 55 states and keynote numerous school counseling conferences.

Lisa’s speaking style can best be described as dynamic, energetic and interactive. After 12 years of being a middle school counselor, she is now an adjunct instructor at Lakeland University training the next generation of school counselors.

LANGUAGE BARRIERS: TIPS FOR INCLUSIVE TRAINING

Immigrants form a large part of the labor force and they arrive to the workplace with varying levels of English language proficiency. So, what steps can you take to ensure the training you deliver will be understood, accessible, equitable and encourage participation?

In this presentation you will learn:

  • Tips for making your speaking clearer (in voice quality and word choices)
  • Considerations for culturally sensitive design and delivery
  • Strategies for maximizing understanding.
  • Tools for making your written materials easier to understand

About Evelina (she/her)

Evelina Silveira is the President of Diversity at Work Communications Training located in London, Canada. Diversity at Work is focused on creating harmonious employee relations and customer service excellence with its diversity and inclusion communications training and English as a Second Language Business Coaching.

Evelina has over 15 years of expertise in Diversity and Workplace Inclusion and has won 10 professional awards. She is a field innovator, who has created diversity and customer service training and a specialized program for working 1:1 with workplace bullies to help them obtain empathy and respectful communication skills. Most recently, she has created a training program to guide participants on how to have challenging diversity dialogues.

She has co-authored three publications, The No-Nonsense Guide to Workplace Inclusion, Diversity and Inclusion on a Budget as well as the TD at work publication, Building Blocks of Workplace Inclusion.

Evelina distinguishes herself from competitors because she is not afraid to tackle challenging diversity issues with humor, respect, empathy, honesty, and humility. In addition, she embraces the notion that DEI is a journey of continuous learning.

Evelina’s education includes a BA in Sociology, an BA in Honours Standing in Political Science, TEFL certification and major course work in Human Resources. She also speaks Portuguese and French and understands Spanish.

Evelina’s interest and expertise lie in the areas of workplace bullying and harassment, cultural competency, disabilities, and inclusive leadership.
